Saint Francis was an Italian priest who lived in the 12th and 13th century.
Zealously devote, he spent his life working on missions supported by the Holy Roman Church.
St. Francis is best known for his love for animals and the nature. He is often described spending much of his time outdoors, listening to birds and talking with animals. That is why today he is usually portrayed with a bird in his hand. Many people take their pets to a church on St. Francis Day to receive blessing. St. Francis is often held up by the Church to urged people to take better care of the environment and follow his example
